USCIS changes Form I-693 and medical examination procedures
On April 29th, the USCIS announced that it had revised Form I-693. Form I-693 is the medical examination form which is completed by a civil surgeon for various immigrant visas. All adjustment of status applicants are required to have a medical examination and Form I-693 is completed by the civil surgeon.
The changes to the USCIS form were required because of new instructions by the Centers for Disease Control regarding tuberculosis. The new form must be used for any medical examination completed after May 1, 2008.
The new form lists seven TB classifications that are listed at the bottom of the first page. Information about the new TB classifications can be found at the CDC website.
It is important that all adjustment applicants be certain that their civil surgeon is using the proper form. We have seen adjustment cases being rejected (even before this announcement) for failure to provide the revises vaccination assessment.
If you are a civil surgeon and are interested in information on the procedures visit the CDC website at the link above.
